Being sustainable

Efficient and sustainable

Efficiency is hugely important to us, across the board, and particularly when it comes to ensuring we have a sustainable future. Quite simply, we can operate a more sustainable business by constantly finding ways to use less scare resources like energy, water and plastics. For us, an efficient business is a sustainable business.

What it means to us

Managing our impact on the environment
We believe that any organisation should take responsibility for their impact on the environment on local, national and global communities.

Improving Resource Efficiency
Reducing the use of natural resources, increasing the use of recycled materials and reducing waste is a growing challenge for any business.

Raising awareness in our staff
We give colleagues the right training to empower them with skills and tools to take responsibility and drive improvements.

Why we do it

Reduce risks to the business
By identifying our risks, we can help prevent pollution and reduce the use of utilities and raw materials.

Identify costs savings and improve performance
Reducing our environmental impact and increasing resource efficiency reduces our costs, both directly and indirectly.

Enhance our brand image
The environment is important to consumers and customers so we make a point of working with our customers and the wider business community to demonstrate our responsibility.

Ensure we have a long-term sustainable business - future proofed
We understand the powerful link between increased environmental performance, improvements in efficiency and the resulting profitability.

What we are doing

We reviewed all our environmental systems, processes and resources throughout the group, sharing best practice between business units

From this we aligned the environmental systems throughout the group to;

  • Maximise synergies
  • Set common standards
  • Have clear responsibility
  • Share best practices
  • Reduce risks
  • Act as one team

This includes Environmental Management Systems, utilities monitoring, environmental training and environmental sustainability responsibility

Engaging with our employees
We are engaging all staff to show them how their role in the business has an impact and how they can help
Without the right behaviours, staff engagement and buy-in, any technology will fail to reach its true potential. Staff need to understand the business drive for improved environmental sustainability performance. Empowering them with a sense of responsibility, along with the correct skills, is key to making this happen.

Tools and resources
Our Environmental Excellence Roadmap means we can identify and measure the right behaviours in all our staff.

We have a Müller UK & Ireland  Environmental Sustainability Team
The Environmental Sustainability Team act as the central point of contact for all environmental sustainability issues and ensure the systems and process meet the requirements of the business and external standards, as well as deliver training to identify and support improvement activities

Engaging and supporting wider supply chain initiatives
Dairy UK

The Dairy Benchmarking Process allows us to measure each sites’ performance with environmental indicators against the rest of the dairy industry
